Deeceman's Action Figure Review

Since this is my debut column, I figures what better way to start than to review arguably the most popular character in the Star Wars universe, the Jedi Master himself, Yoda. The Episode I edition of Yoda is making a lot of noise on the collecting circuit because Hasbro inexplicably left the Episode I logo off of the card and is now expected to be issuing Yoda figures with an Episode I logo, so collectors are snapping this one up fast.

Release: 7/99
Price: $6.74
Collection: 2
Wave: 5
Accessory: Yoda comes with a Jedi Council Chair

Detailing:
The paint detailing on the robe and the face is exceptional. The face in particular is an excellent likeness of Yoda from the movie. What is with the funky exaggerated sideburns though?

Pose: Yoda is placed in a gesturing pose that really isn't anything special and actually looks like he should be holding something that wasn't included with the figure. For an ACTION figure, this figure really doesn't do it for me. At least the vintage Yoda and the different incarnations of the POTF2 line had accessories that allowed some playability. The vintage Yoda had a snake that wrapped around the figure along with a removable cloak and belt and it also featured a cane. The first POTF2 Yoda came with a backpack and a gimer stick (the cane again) and actually was a necessity to get the Dagobah Luke Skywalker to stand properly as the figure wouldn't balance unless it was wearing the backpack with Yoda inside it. The "flashback" edition of Yoda in the POTF2 line came with a boiling pot and cane and had cool rooted hair as well. The Episode I Yoda should be called an "inaction" figure because all the accessory allows you to do is sit Yoda in it. Granted, that is how Yoda appears most of the time in Episode I (sitting) but they could have portrayed him during his talk with Obi-Wan at the end of the movie and it would have been nice to see a hint of a lightsaber hilt beneath Yoda's cloak (YES, he does have one).

Pros: Good detailing in face and robe, hey it's Yoda! What else do you need?

Cons: Weak accessory, pose
Overall: This figure is bound to be a classic because Yoda figures are always popular and this one has the added attraction of being a very obvious "error" card. This is definitely one that I recommend you get 2 of- one to open and one to keep.

I would like any and all comments about my review or the Episode 1 Yoda figure.
Also let me know of any figures you would like reviewed.
